CityScope Shenzhen

CityScope is a project conducted at the MIT Media Lab City Science group. It includes a slew of tangible and digital platforms dedicated to solving spatial design and urban planning challenges. The tools range from simulations that quantify the impact of disruptive interventions in cities to community engagement systems. We develop and deploy these tools around the world and maintain free and open-source community for the majority of our work.

The planning area includes northern, central and southern areas of Xiangmi lake, covering an area of 4.9 km². Xiangmi Lake area is located in the core area of Shenzhen, close to the central area of Futian, and at an important section of Shennan Avenue. As a leading city in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Shenzhen needs to further strengthen and upgrade the core functions of the metropolitan area.

I brainstormed and designed the interactive mode of CityScope Shenzhen layout with the team, and purchased the experiment materials and built the testing prototype. Furthermore, I participated in CityScope user testing and gave feedback. And I abstracted all the buildings into pixels and prepared to build a table of a tangible interface composed of small squares. (The inspiration for this plan comes from the Tangible Media Group, MIT Media Lab)
