Clay 3D Printing with AI (work in progress)

Introduction

AI in design is taking over design, and its integration has revolutionized the way we create and develop visual content. In this practice, I have explored using parametric design and AI to generate surface textures for 3D printing vessels. Additionally, based on the low thermal conductivity of clay, these vessels can be used to create functional furniture, such as a candle warmer lamp.

The vision of this project is to design an open-source website that can generate personalized images based on user prompts and transform them into the texture of a 3D vessel. This eliminates the technological barriers created by AI and 3D modeling, allowing everyone to 3D print the graphics they desire.

The specific steps are using Stable Diffusion to generate images, and then using Grasshopper to make 2D images to 3D models.

The promo for this image is "A light-color dragon with a dark background, simple, pixel art." It's worth noting that 3D printing requires slicing the model before printing, meaning the 3D model will be transformed into layers like contours. Therefore, the printed graphic may not be perfectly the same as the image. Additionally, due to the influence of gravity during clay 3D printing, when it prints without support, it can create unexpected texture effects under the impact of gravity.

The promo for this image is "Animals" In the previous experiment, I opted for a single, concrete design, aiming for a printed result closely resembling the image. However, in this experiment, I chose to pursue an abstract feeling and explore the effects introduced by gravity in clay 3D printing.
